Winter Skin Care

Being in Iowa, we all know we end up having some sort if skin “issues” when the temps drop.

Itchy, dry or flakey skin.. Who can relate??

These affect your tan both prior and post tan. If you come to your session with dry/flakey skin, it can create a tan ending in patchy, uneven results.

There are a few things you can do that will help ensure that your skin has some relief and your tan is flawless in the winter & all year long!

  • Exfoliate regularly (weekly when you aren’t rocking a sunless tan) + the night before your tan. This will remove all the dead skin cells and create an environment for healthy skin cells which in turn are the best cells to tan as they are a fresh “canvas” for that tan to be applied to.
  • Hydrate from the inside out. Half your bodyweight in ounces is the recommended amount of water to be drinking. Drinking your water all year long is good for so many reasons, but your skin {& tan} will thank you as it rids the body of toxins and allows the skin to be hydrated from the inside out!
  • Use gentle cleansers – No Dove, Dial Olay or Bath & Body Works. These brands tend to have high alcohol content which in turn leads to drying of the skin. Please avoid these prior to and during your tan for best results.
  • You should be regularly moisturizing (twice a day prior to your tan, NOT on the day of your tan and once you have reached the 24 hour mark post tan) with a lotion that is free of parabens, mineral oil, sulfates, & petroleum.
